HERD MANAGEMENT— DEWORMER PROTOCOLS
(INCLUDES E. MAC AND EPE)

This talk describes parasite prevention, and dewormer dosages. We discuss the 100 per cent deworming program as well as strategic control schedules. Do we “over deworm?” Are our dewormers working? We address these concerns.

COSTLY ALPACA MANAGEMENT ERRORS

This talk discusseses several management considerations:

Breeding and birthing considerations
Pregnancy monitoring
Weak-born crias
Colostrum and plasma considerations
Weaning considerations
Cheap vaccines and dewormers
Prepurchase exams

NUTRITION TO MAXIMIZE ALPACA FIBER

We discuss selection for fiber, alpaca health, skin health, skin lesions, and how nutrition affects fiber quality and production.

BREEDING THRU BIRTHING & MOTHER AND CRIA ASSESSMENT

We discuss selection, breeding protocols, pregnancy monitoring, birthing issues, cria assessment and mother assessment. Special considerations are offered for the weak cria and the stressed mother.

BLOOD COLLECTION, HANDLING, AND INTERPRETATION

It is tailored for the seasoned breeder or veterinarian. Alpacas are very stoic and difficult to diagnose. Blood analysis can be very beneficial. A proper collection technique as well as handling is necessary to attain diagnostic results. The bulk of this talk deals with interpretation of the different tests results as well as the camelid tests that are ecumenically beneficial.

SKIN BIOPSY AND FIBER PRODUCTION

It involves interrelationships of picking genetics, nutrition, and controlling stresses for the breeder to maximize fiber production. Lots of pictures.

ADMINISTERING & READING ULTRASOUNDS

This talk describes how to administer and read Alpaca Ultrasounds.
